Swapped my gym membership for a rec center pass and saved $45 a month

I used to pay $65 a month for a big chain gym downtown and honestly I only used the treadmill and some free weights. Last month I found out my local rec center (the one off 8th street) has a weight room for $20 a month. The equipment is older and there's no spin class but it gets the job done for what I need. Has anyone else made this switch and found a good cheap alternative for their workouts?

Man, that's the thing though isn't it? We'll drop cash on a gym membership or fancy workout classes without a second thought, but ask us to mow the lawn or carry groceries up three flights of stairs and suddenly we're looking for the elevator. It's like we've decided physical effort only has value if we're paying someone else to make us do it. I see it all the time with people calling me to spray their house for bugs instead of just taking ten minutes to do it themselves. We've gotten real good at paying to avoid the simple stuff.
