Watched a crew in Tulsa lay a 40 foot wall without a string line and I'm rethinking my whole setup
I was in Tulsa last month helping my brother in law with a garage project and the crew next door was laying block on a commercial job. What got me was they had a laser level set up on a tripod. No string line anywhere. I've been running string for 11 years and always figured the laser was just for guys doing big commercial stuff who didn't want to bend down. But I watched them lay about 40 feet of wall and every course was dead on. The foreman told me they haven't pulled a string on that job in 3 weeks and their rework is basically zero. I went home and borrowed a laser from a buddy to try on a small retaining wall and honestly the difference in my back at the end of the day was real. I'm not saying string is dead but I'm finally getting why the commercial guys switched. Anybody here made the jump full time or do you still keep string in the pouch for certain stuff?
