Warning: My Bosch dishwasher had a hidden filter that flooded my kitchen

Last Tuesday I ran my Bosch like normal and came back to water all over the linoleum. Turns out the fine filter under the bottom spray arm was completely clogged with gunk after about 4 months of not checking it. I pulled the arm off, rinsed the mesh screen, and reassembled it in about 10 minutes. Anyone else forget about these hidden filters until something goes wrong?

The fine mesh under the spray arm on my Bosch got so packed with mineral scale and food bits after just 3 months that water was pooling in the bottom before the cycle even finished. I found a YouTube video showing how to pop the whole spray arm assembly apart with a flathead screwdriver and soak the screen in white vinegar for 20 minutes to break up the hard deposits. Now I set a calendar reminder every 6 weeks to check it because once that screen gets clogged the water has nowhere to go but out the door seal. It's definitely one of those stupid design flaws where the fix is simple but you have to know about it before something bad happens.

right? it's wild how we just trust stuff to work until it doesnt. kinda like how everyone forgets to clean the lint trap in the dryer until the thing starts overheating or the vent gets all clogged. same goes for changing the filter in the furnace or even just cleaning the dust off the back of the fridge coils. it's like we all have this blind spot for the things that actually keep our appliances running smooth until they finally give us a horror story.
