Back in 2010, my local garden center gave me a choice: a common pink hydrangea or a rare blue one for my shady spot.

The blue one cost $15 more and the guy said it needed special soil to stay that color. I went with the pink one because it seemed easier. It grew fine, but every summer I'd see photos of those vibrant blue blooms and feel a pang of regret. Has anyone else picked the 'safe' plant option and later wished you'd taken the chance on something more unique?

Man, it's just a plant.

Wait, just a plant? Have you seen some of the stuff people grow? I saw a picture of a flower that looked like a skull once. My neighbor has a cactus that's taller than his garage. Plants can get seriously weird.

That "pang of regret" is why my garden is full of weird plants now.
