Bringing my project to a cookout backfired in a wet way

I was showing off my hand-sewn notebook at a barbecue last weekend. A friend's spouse handed me a waterlogged paperback (still damp, mind you) and seriously expected an on-the-spot restoration. Ever had someone ask for a repair that just wasn't happening right then?

Nothing says summer fun like being handed a wet book at a barbecue and expected to perform miracles. People forget that book repair needs time and the right conditions, not just a sunny day and a plate of ribs. It's like asking someone to fix a car engine with a toothpick and some ketchup. Some folks really think craftsmen are wizards, but we need more than a sausage link and a prayer. Real repair work needs a dry spot, the right stuff, and lots of time, none of which you get at a cookout. Maybe next time I'll bring a magic wand instead of my sewing kit, lol.

That waterlogged paperback at the barbecue proves some folks think craftsmen are MAGICIANS. Real repair needs proper tools and a dry place, not just hope. I guess a SAUSAGE link and a prayer weren't on the menu.

My friend tried that with a soaked cookbook last summer, total mush now.
