Tried a dumb cardboard insert to fix Catan setup time and now my group argues about it
So my Catan box was a mess, setup took like 15 minutes every time because all the hexes and cards were just loose in there. I grabbed an old cereal box, cut it into little dividers with scissors, and taped them inside the lid. Now setup is done in about 4 minutes flat. Half my group says it's a genius free fix, the other half says loose bags were always fine and I'm just wasting time on crafts. We played 3 games friday and nobody could agree on whether it sped things up or not. Anyone else build their own inserts out of trash, or am I the only one doing this?
Think about how much table space your group actually gets back with those dividers. Setting up Catan fast is cool and all but the real win is having the box lid double as an organized tray so hexes stay sorted while you play. Loose bags mean everything gets dumped in a pile and you spend the whole game digging for that one sheep tile someone knocked on the floor. Your group is arguing about the wrong thing here. The craft time is a one time cost and you got 4 minute setup for years of games. Also cereal box cardboard is weirdly perfect for this because it is thin enough to cut but stiff enough to hold shape.
