My board game shelf collapsed on game night, lost 14 games in 5 seconds

We had 6 people over for a heavier strategy night and I thought the cheap particleboard shelf could handle the stack of boxes on top. Turns out my 2008 copy of Twilight Struggle plus 13 others was too much weight, the whole thing came down right as someone was rolling dice. Has anyone else had a collection disaster that made them rethink how they store games?

Wait, is anyone else wondering why a shelf holding 14 games was sitting somewhere that could take out a table mid-roll? I get that particleboard is cheap garbage, but you put the heaviest boxes on top and the light ones on the bottom, that's just basic physics. Honestly, I've seen people stack twenty years of games on a flimsy bookcase and it holds fine because they don't overload one spot. Maybe the real problem is that you had a 2008 copy of Twilight Struggle sitting there for that long anyway. If you'd played it more or sold it off, you'd have less weight and more room for a sturdier shelf. Just saying, that collapse might have done you a favor by forcing you to sort through the clutter.
