Just realized the new coffee shop downtown has a whole wall of board games
I stopped at Grounded on Main Street yesterday and saw they have a huge shelf with maybe fifty different games. It was all modern stuff too, like Azul and Codenames, not just old Monopoly boxes. The owner said a local game group helped pick them out and they host a meet-up every other Tuesday. Has anyone else found a cool spot like this that actually gets our hobby?

Check the game library before you go, because some places have terrible selections. Grounded sounds legit if a game group helped curate it. That kind of spot is worth supporting so it sticks around.

Yeah, that's the whole thing, right? I read a piece about how a good game cafe lives or dies by its library. It's not just about having a ton of games, it's about having the right ones that people actually want to play. A place that lets a local group help pick stuff is clearly paying attention. Why would you go back somewhere that only has dusty old copies of Monopoly?

Totally agree, it's all about curation. I saw an interview with a cafe owner who said they treat their game shelf like a mixtape, you know? Every game needs a reason to be there, something that makes people want to pick it up. A place with just the basics feels lazy, like they don't care if you have a good time. That community input is a smart move, it means they're actually listening to what players want. What's the best new game you've tried at a spot like that?
