House rules got out of hand at our last game night in Austin

Last week we had 8 people over for a light euro game night and somehow three different people had their own 'official' way to handle ties and turn order. One guy kept pulling up a forum thread from 2018 to prove his point, another was citing a house rule his cousin made up 3 years ago. It took us 25 minutes just to start the first round because nobody could agree on how to resolve a simple scoring question. We finally just wrote every rule on a sticky note and voted, which felt weird for a casual group. Has anyone else dealt with this where the group's meta rules start taking over the actual game? How do you shut that down without killing the fun?

Pick one person to be the final rule caller before the night starts, problem solved.
