Heard a guy at my local game store say something about teaching new players
I was picking up a copy of Dune: Imperium and this dude at the counter was telling the clerk, 'I never start with the full rulebook, I just set up the first round and play it out loud.' He said he used this for Root with his family and they got it in 15 minutes. I tried it last game night with my group and Wingspan, and it worked way better than my usual info dump. How do you guys handle teaching a heavy game to new people?

Ever try teaching someone a game by just handing them a card? I once tried to explain Netrunner by pointing at a random icebreaker and saying "this is your can opener for digital doors" and my friend just stared at me like I grew a second head. Sometimes the simplest start is just putting pieces on the board and moving them around without any pressure to win. That dude's method sounds way less stressful than my usual rambling.

Netrunner actually calls them icebreakers, not can openers. That might be why your friend got confused.
