Zoomed a 2019 porch photo 300% to ID a bird and ended up counting 11 moths instead
Two nights ago I was going through old phone pics from my aunt's place outside Duluth and tried to blow up one shot to see what kind of bird was on the feeder. The bird turned into a gray blob, but the porch light behind it went from one fuzzy dot to 11 separate moth shapes once I pushed past 300% zoom. I learned that phone shots at dusk are hiding a whole second photo behind the one you think you took. Now I want to know if anyone else has zoomed into a night picture and counted things that were never the point of the shot.
Did you ever go back and look at other night shots after that? I did this once with a pic of my grill at a cookout and found like six bugs I never saw. The flash lights up stuff so close to the lens that it just becomes a smear you ignore. Zoom in and suddenly it is a whole little crowd. Phone cameras lie to you at night.
