Spent $32 on a washi tape haul from a craft store in Des Moines and half of it peeled off my wall in 2 days
I finally got tired of staring at the big empty space above my couch, so I went to a craft store here in Des Moines and dropped $32 on a bundle of washi tape. The plan was to make a giant geometric pattern, nothing fancy, just some triangles and lines. I cleaned the wall with a damp cloth first like a smart person, let it dry, then started laying strips down. Two days later I walked in and half the tape was curling at the edges, and one strip had fallen behind the couch completely. Turns out my walls have this slight texture from old paint and the cheap tape just could not grip it. I did some reading and found out you can press it down with a warm iron over a towel, or hit the wall with a coat of clear matte sealer first. The sealer cost me $11 and so far the second attempt is holding up way better after a week. Has anyone else dealt with textured walls eating their tape, and did the sealer trick work long term for you?
