Burned 6 hours chasing a cold shut on a leaf hook before I found the real problem
Was working on a set of leaf hooks for a buddy's barn in Reno and kept getting this cold shut right where the leaf meets the stem. I probably went through 4 restarts and reheated the steel more times than I want to admit, thinking my scarf weld just wasn't taking. Turned out my forge was running lean near the back port and that spot of the stock was never getting hot enough to weld proper. Six hours on a joint that should've taken 20 minutes. Anyone else ever chase a weld problem that turned out to be a fire problem?
