Serious question, did a $40 Roku stick save my sanity or just enable a 14 hour Law and Order marathon in one weekend?
So two years ago my old smart TV stopped getting updates and the apps kept crashing every five minutes, which was driving me nuts because I only had three channels coming in over the air and one of them was a shopping network. I grabbed a Roku stick at a Walmart in Columbus for 40 bucks on a Tuesday night because I just wanted to watch something that was not a guy yelling about a blender. Fast forward to last Saturday and I sat down at 10 in the morning to watch one episode of Law and Order and somehow looked up and it was midnight and I had gone through almost an entire season without moving off the couch except to grab a bag of pretzels. My roommate came home around 6 and asked if I was okay because I had not showered or talked to a human in eight hours and I just pointed at the screen and mumbled something about a detective. The crazy part is this little 40 dollar stick has become the most used thing in my apartment and I have probably watched 400 hours of shows on it since, or maybe 500 if you count the time I fell asleep during a true crime doc and woke up three episodes later. I keep telling myself I should set a limit or at least stand up once an hour, but then the next episode starts on its own and I lose all willpower. Does anyone else have a cheap gadget that ended up controlling their whole life like this, or am I the only one who cannot be trusted with an autoplay feature?
