PSA: A shop owner in Denver told me my torque wrench technique was basically guesswork
He said I was just 'feeling' for the click and not letting the tool do its job, so I started setting it down and pulling smoothly from the center of the handle. Anyone else get called out on a basic habit like that?

Totally get that. I did the same thing for years until a mechanic friend pointed it out.

What exactly did your friend show you that helped? For me, it was learning to check the tire pressure when the tires were cold, not after driving. I used to fill them up right after getting off the highway and my readings were always off. Now I keep a cheap gauge in the glove box and check it in the morning.
