The library sale down in Blue Ridge had a box of old paperbacks for a dime each
I grabbed 14 of them for $1.40 and the lady running it said they price stuff that low because nobody checks the back room otherwise. So now I always ask if there are more boxes in the back, does anyone else do this or am I being annoying?

Asking about back room boxes also means you might find the good stuff before it gets picked over by regulars. Those folks never think to ask, so you get first dibs.
