Stubborn old guy taught me a lesson about neck shaves today

Had this older fella come in yesterday, probably mid 70s, and he straight up told me my neck line was too high. He said "you're cutting where the beard naturally ends, not where the jaw starts" and I gotta admit he was right. Been doing it the same way for 2 years and never questioned it. Has anyone else had a customer call them out on something you thought you had down cold?

Two years is a long time to be doing something one way without ever once questioning it. I always see barbers who swear by their method and it works fine because every face is different, so maybe that old guy was just projecting his own preferences onto you. A neck line that's "too high" for him might be exactly right for the next ten guys who sit in your chair.

Old guys like that have forgotten more about barbering than most of us will ever learn. Makes you realize how easy it is to get stuck in a routine and stop actually looking at what you're doing.
