Picked up a vintage straight razor at a flea market in Toledo, gave it a go on a regular. The shave was smoother than any cartridge I've ever used, but man, the upkeep is a whole other job.

Rituals are just chores you haven't gotten sick of yet, skylerg17.

That upkeep is the real test. You have to strop it before every single shave, and then hone it on a stone every few weeks to keep the edge. It's a skill you have to learn, like sharpening a really good kitchen knife. The time and focus it takes turns a simple chore into a ritual. Most people just aren't willing to make that trade for a closer shave.

Used to think that sounded like a huge pain, but you're right about the ritual part changing things.
