Vent: had to pick between atm fees or walking 15 blocks in the rain

Last thursday i stood in the rain outside a 7-Eleven in Cleveland deciding if i should pay $3.50 to use their ATM or hoof it to my bank 3 blocks further. I chose the fees and the machine ate my card after the first try. Has anyone else had a machine just swallow your debit card for no reason?

Oh man, that is the worst. I had a similar thing happen at a gas station in Columbus where it just sucked my card in and the screen went blank. Did you at least get the card back from the store manager or did they give you the runaround about having to wait for a tech? I'm just super curious if anyone actually has luck getting their card back same day from those off-brand ATMs.

Nah, actually I've had managers pop the machine open and hand my card right back more than once.
