Switched to batch payment scheduling and finally stopped the Friday chaos
Our little credit union in Spokane kept missing same-day ACH deadlines for member transfers, so I tried scheduling all non-urgent payments for Tuesday and Thursday mornings instead. Three months in, our exception rate dropped from about 12 per week to 2, and the staff actually get lunch now. Has anyone else tried a fixed window for recurring payments, or do you just eat the late fees?

My old boss at the old shop swore by same-day or bust, and I was in that camp too, honestly. I figured if you didn't push everything through instantly, members would just lose their minds. Then we tried a Tuesday/Thursday window for our bill pay stuff, and it took about two months for me to see the light. Our exception count dropped from nine a week to maybe three, and the weird part is nobody even noticed the slower pace. I thought people would call us lazy, but they just liked that their money actually landed on time, every time. Now I'm the one telling everyone to batch it and take a real lunch break, it's wild how wrong I was about the urgency thing.
