Hot take: I just found out how many people still get paper checks for work

I was reading a report from the Federal Reserve the other day, and it said over 40% of businesses still pay some workers with physical checks. I found it on their website under 'Payments Study'. That blew my mind, I thought everyone was on direct deposit by now. It feels like such a waste of time and paper. Has anyone here actually had to deal with cashing a check recently?

That number is actually wild to me. My last job was at a tiny family-run place, and the owner insisted on handwritten checks. He'd forget to sign them half the time, so I'd have to go back the next day. Felt like I was living in a different decade. What kind of places are still doing this, just small businesses or bigger companies too?

My buddy's boss still mails checks, and one got lost for three weeks.
