DAE notice how many people still think a pending charge is money already gone from their account?
I work the front desk at a credit union branch in Spokane and I get this same question at least four times a week, usually on Mondays when weekend spending shows up as pending. A guy came in last month mad because his balance looked $212 lighter than what he wrote in his checkbook, and he was sure we took it twice. It was just three gas station holds and a restaurant tip that hadn't settled yet, and they all dropped off within two business days. Here's the part that bugs me: people check the app, see pending, and assume that number is final, so they either panic or they spend again thinking the charge vanished. I get that banks could label it better, but I also think folks should know that a pending debit is just the bank setting money aside until the merchant sends the real amount. Does your bank show pending and posted in separate spots, or does it lump them into one number like mine does?
Gas pump holds are the worst for this. Paid at the pump with a card once, saw a $75 pending hold, and the real charge was $30. Took three days for it to fix itself and I checked that app way too many times.
