My sister watched me toss a cake and said something that stuck with me

I was so mad at this chocolate cake that came out dry and crumbly, I was about to throw the whole thing in the trash. My sister was over and saw me, and she just said, 'You know, you could turn that into cake pops. The texture is perfect for it.' I've heard that tip a hundred times online, but hearing it from her while I was actually holding a failed cake hit different. I was so focused on the perfect slice that I couldn't see the fix right in front of me. We spent the next hour crumbling it, mixing it with some leftover frosting, and dipping them. They were a huge hit at her kid's playgroup the next day. It made me realize I get too stuck on the original plan and can't pivot when things go wrong. Has anyone else had a simple suggestion from a friend totally save a baking disaster?
