My brother-in-law from Denver said my coop was 'overbuilt for a few birds' and honestly it stung
He saw my 8x10 framed structure with hardware cloth and asked why I didn't just use chicken wire and a tarp. Made me question if I was building a fortress or a home. Anyone else get flak for going too heavy-duty?

Oh man, did he see the 2x6 rafters and the buried hardware cloth apron? My girls are living in the Fort Knox of coops, but at least I know nothing's getting in!

Is your chicken coop really under that much threat? I've seen people go all out on security for a few backyard hens like they're guarding the crown jewels. What's getting after them, a raccoon with a master's degree in breaking and entering?

Ugh, that's the worst feeling. I built a full run with a concrete footer because we have foxes and a crazy badger. My neighbor called it the chicken bunker. It's not overkill if it means you sleep soundly.
