I stopped cleaning my coop every week and my hens are healthier for it
Everyone on here says scrub the coop weekly and I did that for two years straight in my Salem backyard, but my girls kept getting respiratory gunk anyway. Last spring I got lazy during a rainy stretch and went almost 6 weeks between full cleanouts, just adding fresh pine shavings on top. The deep litter dried out the droppings, the smell went away, and the sneezing cleared up within a month. Turns out the wet scrub-down was the problem, not the poop. Anyone else running deep litter in a small coop, and how often are you turning it?
So the big secret is just being lazy? Sign me up, I've been training for this my whole life. Kidding aside, I do the same thing and my girls stopped sneezing too. Who knew scrubbing was making it worse this whole time.
