Skipped the concrete footings on my 10x12 shed in Grand Rapids and it hasn't budged in 3 winters
Everyone on here says you have to pour footings below the frost line or your shed will heave and twist. I got quoted $400 just for the concrete work, so I dug 6 inches down, set my 4x4 skids on 12 inches of packed 3/4 clear gravel, and leveled it with a string and a $12 line level. That was three winters ago in Grand Rapids, where we get a real freeze, and the doors still open and close with one hand. I'm not saying do this on a slope or in wet clay, but on my sandy lot the gravel drains fine and nothing moved. Anyone else skip the concrete and regret it later, or is this one of those rules that only matters in certain soil?
