I finally found a way to stop my gravel pad from shifting every time it rains
Got tired of re-leveling the 10x12 pad under my shed after every storm in Nashville, so I dug a 4 inch trench around it and filled it with 3/4 inch clean stone instead of sand. Has anyone else tried a French drain around a pad like this, or did I just make more work for myself?
Clean stone in a trench is the right move, but the big thing is where the water actually goes once it fills up. If that trench just dead ends, it turns into a bathtub and you're back to square one. Slope the bottom of the trench about an inch per 10 feet and run it out to a low spot or a pop-up drain, then line the trench with landscape fabric before the stone so silt doesn't clog it up over a couple seasons. Did mine like that three years ago and the pad hasn't moved since.
