My $80 bird feeder was a total squirrel magnet

I bought a fancy 'squirrel proof' feeder online last month, thinking it would solve my seed theft problem. The metal cage around it just gave them a climbing gym, and they emptied it in two days flat. Has anyone found a feeder that actually keeps them out without looking like a fortress?

Honestly I used to believe those metal cage ones were the answer too. Then I watched a squirrel hang upside down from mine like a tiny furry acrobat. What finally worked was moving the feeder way out on a thin wire, like ten feet from any tree or fence. They can't jump that far if you get the distance right. It looks a bit weird but it's the only thing that stopped the daily raids for me.

Ugh, I wish that worked for me. I tried the long wire thing and they just used the power line like a tightrope to get closer. Maybe my squirrels are Olympic athletes or something, but they launched from a branch I didn't even think was in range. I had to give up and just buy the spicy seed mix.
