Decided to switch from a big feeder to a few small ones...

I had a big tube feeder that held 5 pounds of seed, but it got messy and only the big birds like jays and grackles used it. So last month, I swapped it for three small mesh sock feeders with just a cup of nyjer seed each. The change was quick... within two days, I had goldfinches and pine siskins visiting that never came before. It's way less seed waste, and I can move the socks around to different spots. Anyone else find that smaller feeders work better for attracting different kinds of birds?

Constantly refilling three tiny socks" is my life now. I went from a fancy setup to basically running a bird seed snack bar. I'm out there every other day like a weirdo waiter, and the goldfinches totally judge me if I'm late. My big feeder was easier, but it felt like only the bird bullies showed up.

Honestly, that sounds like a huge pain. Constantly refilling three tiny socks instead of one big feeder is way more work. I tried that and the squirrels destroyed the mesh in a week. My big hopper feeder might attract bigger birds sometimes, but it also brings in cardinals and woodpeckers that the little guys scare off.
