Appreciation post: the 6 feeders in my Tucson yard cut bird strikes on my window by a lot, and nobody told me
I read a Cornell Lab number that said putting feeders within 3 feet of glass lowers strikes way more than the 30 foot rule everyone repeats. I moved my 6 feeders from about 15 feet out to right up against the window in my Tucson yard, and in 4 months I have had zero thuds instead of the 2 or 3 a season I used to get. The logic is that birds can't build up speed in that short hop, so they bounce instead of hit hard. Has anyone else tried the close in setup, and did your regulars stick around or scatter?
