That one trail angel in the Sierras who changed my whole resupply plan
Last summer on the JMT near Muir Pass, I was rationing my last ramen packet and honestly pretty low on morale when this older guy, Pat, flagged me down from his camp. He handed me a half jar of crunchy peanut butter and said, "You're carrying too much salt, kid, your legs will cramp tonight." He showed me his logbook of every resupply box he'd mailed for 15 years, with notes like "VVR beans = 2 days of gas" next to each location. I rerouted my next two stops based on his scribbles and it saved me about 30 miles of unnecessary detours. Has anyone else met someone like that who just casually dropped better route knowledge than any guidebook?
