Rant: My quiet forest loop got overrun after a viral route post
I keep seeing more backpackers flock to once-empty trails because of detailed online guides. This is AWESOME for community growth, but the sudden crowds are trampling vegetation and leaving trash. Do you have tips for promoting routes without spoiling the peace?

Tried posting vague route descriptions that focus on trail etiquette instead of exact locations. Slowed the rush way down while still getting people excited about the area. Sometimes less detail means better visitors.

Vague descriptions sound good in theory, but don't they just turn into a puzzle for the most determined folks? I've watched people treat a hint like a treasure map, spending whole weekends decoding it. That swimming hole story is a perfect example of how even a little info can blow up a spot. Makes you wonder if any mention at all is safe these days. What's your cutoff for sharing, like do you ever post photos without any location tags, or is that still too much? Sometimes I think the only surefire way is to not post anything, but that feels like hoarding.

Ugh, this reminds me of a hidden swimming hole spot. A friend posted a gorgeous pic but only said it was "east of the river." Next weekend there were like twenty cars parked along the gravel road, people actually trampling through a farmer's field to find it. Sometimes even hints act like a beacon. Now I just keep my favorite map grids to myself.
