Used to pick B2B software by watching demo videos, now I make them do one real task with my own data
I sat through a 40 minute demo last Tuesday that looked great, then the rollout took us 5 months to get reports that made sense. So for the next vendor in Tampa I asked them to load our actual invoice export, all 2,300 rows, and show me a single cost breakdown live. Two of the three couldn't do it without "implementation support." The third did it in 8 minutes. Now I do that with every vendor before I sign anything. Has this backfired on anyone, like a tool that aced the demo but fell apart in daily use?
