Shoutout to that client who called me out on my proposal templates
About 2 years back a client in Columbus told me my proposals all sounded the same. Not in a good way either. She said it felt like I copied and pasted the same pitch for everyone. She was right. I was using one template for every lead. Changed my whole approach after that. Now I spend 20 minutes tailoring each proposal to their actual situation. My close rate went from maybe 30% up to around 60%. Has anyone else had a client straight up tell you your process was lazy?

3 years ago I had a client in Austin straight up tell me my emails felt like a robot wrote them. She was super polite about it but it stung because I knew she was right. That moment really sucked but honestly it was the best wake up call I ever got. I started writing everything from scratch and my replies actually started feeling like conversations instead of spam. Sounds like your client did you a huge favor even if it hurt at first.

Hard disagree here honestly. Writing from scratch every time is a huge time suck and most people don't have that kind of bandwidth. Templates can be fine if you personalize them enough and actually sound like you instead of a generic sales bot. The problem isnt the template itself, its when people copy paste without changing anything or adding a personal detail. I get why you feel that way but I think the real fix is just adding more of your own voice into whatever base you already have, not throwing everything out.
