PSA: cleaning the cannon plug contacts before troubleshooting saved me 3 hours last Tuesday
Spent half a shift chasing an intermittent autopilot fault on a King Air, swapping LRUs and ringing out every pin, only to find light corrosion on the J1 connector I'd walked past twice. A $6 can of contact cleaner and 10 minutes of brushing beat my entire afternoon of guessing. Anyone else finding their weird gremlins turn out to be dirty pins more often than real faults?
Man, I gotta push back a little on the whole "it's almost always just dirty pins" idea. Corrosion and grime do cause tons of gremlins, no question, but I've chased my share of intermittent faults that turned out to be a worn crimp or a chafed wire hiding behind a clean connector. Contact cleaner is cheap and easy, so always start there, just don't stop there and call it fixed until you've actually wiggled and loaded the harness.
