Warning: my water heater died Tuesday and the home warranty sent a guy who quoted me $1,100 out of pocket
So Tuesday morning I wake up to a cold shower and a puddle in the garage, water heater is 11 years old and finally gave up. I call the home warranty company I have been paying $62 a month to for the past 3 years, and they tell me a tech will be out Thursday between 8 and 4. Fine, whatever, I take a day off work. Guy shows up Friday at 6pm, looks at it for 10 minutes, and says the tank itself is covered but the install, the new fittings, the permit, and the haul away are all out of pocket, $1,100 total. I called the warranty line while he was standing there and the rep said that matches my contract. I have paid them over $2,200 across 3 years and they are covering maybe $400 of this. Has anyone fought one of these companies and won, or did I just donate $2,200 to a call center for 3 years?
