PSA: Overheard a guy at the parts counter say he'd never use a stud welder on quarter panels

He claimed it was 'overkill for anything but frame work', which is a take so bad I almost dropped my coffee.

My buddy tried to fix a rusty quarter on his old truck without one. He spent a whole weekend fighting it with a slide hammer and hooks, putting new holes in good metal. Finally borrowed a stud welder and had the dent out in like an hour. How is that overkill? It saved the panel.

The 2005 Mustang I just finished proves that wrong. Quarter panel lips and inner structures are a perfect use for a stud welder. It gives you way more control than just pulling with a hook. Jadeg81 gets it. That guy at the counter has clearly never tried to fix a real rust repair. Using one on thin metal is not overkill, it's just the right tool. Saying it's only for frames is just bad advice.

My last quarter panel job says otherwise.
