I was buffing out a clear coat on a 2018 Civic for 45 minutes before I noticed my pad was completely caked with old compound.

The customer pointed out a weird, greasy haze that wouldn't go away, and that's when I saw the pad was just pushing junk around instead of cutting.

Forty-five minutes is a long time to be best friends with a dead pad. Honestly, I'm surprised the Civic didn't buff itself clean out of sheer pity. You were basically just giving the car a greasy massage with a crusty sponge at that point. Tbh, that haze wasn't weird, it was the car's way of crying for help. Next time maybe the customer will toss you a fresh pad before you wear a hole in the clear coat.
