Spent 4 hours trying to fix star trailing in my photos before I checked the obvious

I was out last Tuesday shooting the Milky Way and every single shot had these tiny trails. I figured it was my mount or my polar alignment was off. Spent like 2 hours tweaking everything, rebalancing the scope, even swapped batteries. Finally on a whim I checked my shutter speed and realized I had it set to 30 seconds instead of the 15 I normally use. That extra 15 seconds was enough to show movement even with my wide lens. Took me another 2 hours to redo all my shots. Has anyone else spent way too long troubleshooting something simple like that?
