Just realized my $300 solar filter was the wrong size the whole time
Bought a solar filter off an auction site back in March for my 8 inch Dob, paid $300 and it fit snug so I figured it was fine. Used it twice before I noticed the image was a little soft, but I blamed the atmosphere. Then last week I actually measured the aperture and it was for a 10 inch scope, so the opening was way bigger than my tube. No damage to my eye or gear, thank goodness, but the money is gone and I feel dumb for not checking the spec sheet first. Anyone else bought a used astro part and skipped the math?
