Unpopular opinion: asking the hotel front desk beats every travel app I've tried
Booked a room in Savannah, GA for a weekend in March and watched the price climb $60 over two days on the big apps, so I just called the front desk directly. The guy quoted me $119 a night, no resort fee, and threw in late checkout when I asked about parking. Turns out the sites add their cut on top, so now I always phone the hotel first and book straight with them. Anyone else get a better rate by calling instead of clicking?
The "no resort fee" part got me lol, that alone is worth more than the $60 you saved. I've done the same thing and felt like some kind of secret agent just for picking up a phone. Meanwhile the apps make me feel like I'm haggling at a flea market with a robot that never blinks. The catch is it only works at smaller spots or chains where the desk can actually wheel and deal, the big places just point you back to a website like a bouncer. Still, calling first costs nothing but a few minutes, so why not.
