Hot take: I asked a local barber in Savannah for a 'quick fix' on a bad haircut and he used a trick with a straight razor that actually worked.

He told me to hold a cold spoon against my neck while he trimmed the back line, and it somehow stopped me from flinching and getting nicked, so has anyone else had a barber use a weird household item to make a cut better?

Actually, that's a pretty common trick (the cold metal distracts your nerves). They use the back of clippers for the same thing sometimes.

Yeah, the cold metal trick is smart. I always thought it was just a weird old barber thing, but @sandralee is right about it distracting your nerves. That spoon trick actually makes sense now.
