My aunt told me I ask too many questions at dinner, so now I wait 10 minutes before speaking
Last month at my aunt's place in Phoenix, she pulled me aside after dinner and told me I ask too many questions and it makes people feel like they're being interviewed. I was a little hurt at the time, but she's not wrong. I've always been the type to fire off stuff like "what's your favorite thing about your job" or "how did you two meet" right out of the gate, and I guess that's a lot when people just want to eat. So I tried a new thing where I hold back for the first 10 minutes and just listen to whatever everyone else is saying. It was awkward at first and I caught myself a few times, but honestly the talks got way better because people opened up on their own instead of me poking at them. Now I'm wondering if my aunt just wanted me to chill or if I was really bugging everyone for years. Has anyone else been told they ask too many questions, and did you actually change or just ignore it?
