Update: Learned to identify artifacts, and my big discovery was a 'Roman coin' that's actually a Chuck E. Cheese token.

Disagree with calling that a failed find. See it as a win because you trained your eye to spot details. Mixing up a token for a coin happens to everyone starting out. That Chuck E. Cheese piece has its own cool past, like a snapshot from the 90s. The real skill is in the looking, not just what you find. So you nailed the important part.

Heard a podcast where dig sites get modern junk mixed in, so maybe @jenkins.paige is right about recent stuff throwing us off.

A token from the 90s is considered an artifact now? That feels way too recent to have any real history behind it. Guess we're all just getting old.
