Tried flint knapping after watching one video, ended up with a rock museum in my backyard

Last Saturday I found a chert nodule on my property in Boise and thought I'd channel my inner caveman. Two hours in, I had 47 sharp flakes, one cracked rock, and a thumb that looked like I lost a fight with a cheese grater. The 'perfect point' I was aiming for turned into a lumpy blob that my dog immediately tried to bury. On the bright side, I learned that percussion platforms are not something you guess at, and safety glasses actually matter. My neighbors probably think I'm starting a rock cult, but the pile of flakes is oddly satisfying. Has anyone else underestimated how much upper body work this hobby is, or is my technique just that bad?
