I kept seeing videos of people pulling Roman coins out of farm fields, so I bought a $95 detector and spent 3 weekends in a park near my house finding nothing but trash. A guy from the local archaeology club pointed out that real digs need a permit and there is almost no context to loose finds, most of the info comes from where an object sits in the dirt. If you are thinking about dropping cash on one, what site would you even scan with it?
