A volunteer at a dig in Flagstaff showed me a tiny obsidian flake I almost missed
We were sifting through a unit near an old pueblo site, and I was about to toss a small bit of dirt when she stopped me and pointed out a nearly black flake the size of a fingernail. She explained it was likely a tool-making leftover from over 800 years ago, which made me look at every handful of soil completely differently. Do you have a story about a small find that taught you a big lesson?

Flagstaff volunteers can spot an 800-year-old fingernail in dirt.

My grandpa had a jar of old buttons he saved from worn-out clothes. I found a tiny brass one with an anchor on it when I was a kid, and he told me it was from his dad's navy uniform in World War I. It was just this small, dull thing in a jar, but it made a whole person I never met feel real. Makes you wonder how many stories are sitting in junk drawers, right?

Found a 1940s wheat penny in a parking lot once and it started my whole coin collection hobby.
