Saw a fellow tech fix an icemaker with a zip tie, wild

Watched a guy at a rental complex in Austin sort out a Samsung icemaker that kept freezing up. He didn't pull the board or replace the valve, just zip tied the fill hose tighter to the line. Said the slack was letting water pool and ice up the sensor. Kinda blew my mind since I've swapped parts for the same symptom twice last quarter. Has anyone else done field fixes like that that held up long term, or am I just wasting time with official parts?
