I finally pushed back on the 'just replace it' mindset

Many repair folks say to tell customers to buy new when an appliance is old. I think that is wrong after my last job. I had a call for a washer that would not spin, and the owner was sure it was dead. I found it was just a worn out drive belt. A ten dollar part and thirty minutes of work got it running perfect. Now they saved hundreds on a new machine, so we should always try to fix things first.

Totally! My dryer was making a horrible noise last year, everyone said just get a new one. Turned out it was just a worn out roller, cost me like fifteen bucks to fix myself.

I used to believe the "just replace it" crowd too.

That "throwaway culture" costs people so much money.
