Found a 1987 fridge with a date code inside the compressor housing
Pulled a Frigidaire from a rental in Boise and found a handwritten service tag from '87 tucked in the compressor housing, still legible after all these years. The guy who wrote it used a grease pencil and noted the exact refrigerant charge, which saved me an hour of guessing on this old R-12 unit. Anyone else ever find old service notes inside a sealed unit, and do you trust them or double-check everything anyway?

Buddy of mine found a folded-up receipt from '92 inside a condenser once, had the compressor model and oil type scribbled on it. He checked it against the unit and it was spot on, but he still pulls the charge and weighs it fresh anyway. Old notes are a good head start, not gospel.
